I got there early enough in the day to get settled in and to enjoy the park.<\/p>\n<p>That campsites were in a manicured, garden-like setting The sites weren&#8217;t exactly private, but they weren&#8217;t crammed together. Dams were created in Mound Creek and a beach house and picnic grounds were created by the WPA. Mound Springs Recreational Reserve opening in 1937.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Lake-behind-campground.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11632 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Lake-behind-campground-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Lake-behind-campground-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Lake-behind-campground-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Lake-behind-campground-768x480.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The land is one of Minnesota&#8217;s prairie remnants.The soil was too thin and boulder strewn for farming, although it was used for grazing. According to my <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blue_Mounds_State_Park\">Preferred Source<\/a>, in the 1950s, trees were planted \u00a0in the campground and around the lakes and the campground.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Buffalo-on-the-hill.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11633 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Buffalo-on-the-hill-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Buffalo-on-the-hill-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Buffalo-on-the-hill-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Buffalo-on-the-hill-768x480.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is a buffalo herd that was begun in 1961. They <strong><em>say<\/em><\/strong> there are over 100 buffalo in the park, but this was the only one I could find. It looks pink to me, but it is said to have appeared blueish in the distance to early settlers.<\/p>\n<p>At one time, the rock was quarried. From the late 1880s to the 1890s, the rock was used to construct area buildings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/1880s-quarry-scrap-heap.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11637 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/1880s-quarry-scrap-heap-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/1880s-quarry-scrap-heap-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/1880s-quarry-scrap-heap-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/1880s-quarry-scrap-heap-768x480.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a heap of scrap rock from cutting and shaping the blocks.
