I wonder if anyone ever used aluminum barbed wire? They had a model of part of a house, including the tunnel they had to crawl through. I imagine that must be a lot of fun for kids. I have long since passed the age where crawling into and through things is fun, so I passed on the experience. According to the display, archeologists discovered stones worn smooth from crawling into the houses. I like how brightly lit they are. It even has the brown &#8220;seam&#8221; in it! Although the region receives only about 20 inches of rain and 15 inches of snow a year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ogallala_Aquifer\">Ogallala Aquifer<\/a> is right below their feet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/How-rotary-motion-is-used-to-pump-water.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6178 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/How-rotary-motion-is-used-to-pump-water-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"How rotary motion is used to pump water\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/How-rotary-motion-is-used-to-pump-water-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/How-rotary-motion-is-used-to-pump-water-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.towingsilver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/How-rotary-motion-is-used-to-pump-water-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They even had a demonstration that showed how the rotary motion of the wheel was changed to\u00a0a reciprocating motion for pumping water. I may not crawl through tunnels anymore, but I had fun turning the wheel and watching the machinery work.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, the American windmill was invented in Connecticut. Daniel Hallady invented, manufactured and marketed the first successful self-governing American windmill in 1854. A self-governing windmill automatically turns to face the wind when the wind changes direction. It also controls its speed to prevent it from self-destruction during high winds. Photography of the artwork is prohibited, so I have no pictures of that.
